Episode #047 - The Eye-Fi in The Sky

Download | Duration: 00:18:18

Look up in the air, it's a plane. Never mind.

So I chucked my outdated Casio digital camera and plunked down a few bucks for a Canon SD780is digital camera. Not a bad choice, Canon makes some really good products. This time around instead of getting a regular SD media card I opted for an Eye-Fi 8GB Explorer X2 SD card which has a built in WiFi radio. Pretty cool technology, I no longer have to connect the camera to the PC to upload photos to the computer. It's all done without wires, just digits sent through the air. I can also upload to my favorite social media sites. This episode's website is faceinspace.nasa.gov , the last 2 shuttle missions will lift off soon and if you want to send a picture of yourself and your significant other or whatever you like, then you should head over to this site and upload a photo. Episode #046 - HP MediaSmart Server 3.0 Upgrade

Download | Duration: 00:22:16

Houston, firing all engines!

I finally had the chance to upgrade my fantastic HP MediaSmart server to the new 3.0 upgrade and I am so pleased with the operation and it's new features. I must warn you, you should upgrade your sever if you own one to 2GB of RAM because 512MB won't cut it. Here's a video on how to do the upgrade. HP recommends that you have at least 1GB of RAM in the unit but if you're going to crack open your unit you might as well go for the 2GB. The new features are well worth the $25.00 and here's where you can find it . This episode's software tip is a great game called "Beat Hazard " and it's available on Steam . Episode #044 - The Tablet Wars

Download | Duration: 00:30:18

It's raining in NYC.

I took some time out from my busy schedule and loaded Windows 7 on my Dell Mini 9 netbook. I have to say that I am rather impressed with it's performance and with the speed. It's much faster than Windows XP and I had a stripped down version of XP on the Mini 9 . Also we all know that the iPad is out there but did you know that there are other manufactures who are also delivering internet tablets? I talk about the Dell Streak , Enso ZenPad, JooJoo (Engadget Joo Joo video ) and the HP Slate . This episode's software tip is another virtual amateur radio program, it's called CQ100 . Lookout, that statue is falling and it's going to leave a mark.

So I watched "2012 " the movie about the world's destruction with my girlfriend Melissa and we both thought the special effects were good in the movie although the story wasn't that great. Well it seems the Catholic church was offended by the fact that the "Christ The Redeemer" statue was destroyed in the movie. Will this open a pandora's box? Stay tuned. Also big news from Microsoft , by way of Engadget , has announced Windows Phone 7 is coming out on Windows inspired smart phones. Can they catch up? We'll see. The software tip for this episode is HamSphere , even if you don't have an amateur radio license like me, you can still enjoy contacts across the world using this simulated ham radio.

Episode #041 - Congested Firmware

Download | Duration: 00:20:57

Spring is here!

You heard right, temps are in the 60s in NYC and I'm thrilled about that. I'm also happy with my recent gadget acquisition. the Asus WL-520GU router. Now the reason I got this router wasn't because it's a fancy router, because it's not, I got it because I could load the open source firmware DD-WRT very easily and it is very easy than loading it on other routers. As I use it more and more I'll give you updates on the unit. They have a very good Wiki on the DD-WRT firmware. This episode's software tip is Auslogic's Disk Defrag tool. It works very well on Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit.
